Before you book

Questions people actually ask

If the answer you need is not here, message us; it is quicker than reading further, and someone will reply.

Booking and paying

Is the price I see the final price?

The figure our booking engine shows is the total for the dates you have chosen, not a nightly rate, and taxes are itemised before you pay. There are no booking fees when you book with us directly.

Can I pay part of it now?

Yes. You can hold a booking with 50% up front and settle the balance later.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms belong to the rate you pick and are shown with it at checkout; non-refundable rates are cheaper and clearly marked as such. If you want a flexible rate, ask us on WhatsApp before you book and we will point you to the right one.

Is it cheaper to book direct?

Yes, and that is the main reason this site exists. We run a standing discount on our own booking system against what the booking sites charge for the same room (up to 45% at Eevolve Hostel and 42% at Soma House), and we charge no booking fee.

Do I need to pay the whole amount up front?

No. You can hold a booking with half the amount and pay the rest later. Non-refundable rates are cheaper if you are certain of your dates.

Arriving and leaving

What time can I check in?

Check-in is from 1:00 PM and check-out is by 11:00 AM. Arriving outside those hours is usually fine; message us on WhatsApp and we'll arrange it.

How do I get here from Delhi?

Overnight bus from Kashmiri Gate or Majnu ka Tila to McLeodganj, about eleven to twelve hours, or fly to Gaggal (Kangra) and take a taxi for the last 45 minutes to an hour. From McLeodganj it is roughly two kilometres uphill, and we can arrange a pickup at any hour.

Can a taxi bring me to the door?

Not quite. The road up narrows and stops short of the village core, which is largely pedestrian, so there is a short walk from where a vehicle can leave you. Send us your arrival time and we will tell you exactly where to be dropped and meet you there.

Can you arrange a pickup?

Yes, at any hour. We keep trusted drivers on call and can arrange pickups from McLeodganj, Gaggal airport or further afield. Message us with your arrival details.

Can I leave my bags while I trek?

Yes. Guests regularly leave luggage with us for the day or overnight while they walk up to Triund. Just ask at the desk.

The rooms

What is the difference between Eevolve Hostel and Soma House?

Eevolve Hostel is the larger house and has the dorms, the café and the common room; it is the sociable one. Soma House is a few minutes down the lane, is private rooms only, and is quieter. Same team, same standards, and you are welcome at the café either way.

What are the Evolve Home rooms?

It is the name used for our larger private rooms at Eevolve Hostel. They sleep two comfortably with room for a third, and they are the roomiest option on that side.

Are the dorms mixed?

There are mixed dorms and a four-bed female-only dorm. Every bed has a locker and a reading light, and the mattresses are proper eight-inch ones rather than the usual hostel foam.

While you're here

Can the café work around my diet?

The kitchen cooks fresh each day rather than to a fixed menu, so it can usually accommodate a request if it has some notice. Tell us what you need when you book and we will confirm what is possible.

Is there somewhere to work?

There is a covered rooftop workspace looking out at the mountains, and the private rooms have desks. It is the quiet end of the property while everyone else is on the terrace.

How close are the yoga and meditation centres?

The Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre is essentially next door, the Vipassana centre is about 200 metres, and Tushita is roughly a ten-minute walk. All three need booking well in advance, and two of them close over the winter, so book the course before you book the room.

When should I come?

October and November are the clearest, driest months and the best for trekking. March to June is also good. July and August are the monsoon: the waterfall is spectacular and the village is quiet, but Triund is not advisable. December to March is beautiful and very quiet, though the meditation centres are closed.
